Unto the City of David -- By: Peter Robinson

Today on Uncommon Knowledge, RenĂ© Girard and the second chapter of Luke.

[The Christmas story] happened only in one place. It was unique - something which had to be discovered. We cannot afford to say, “Okay, it is there, in that obscure place, it’s unimportant.” No, it’s not unimportant! It is the destiny and duty of our life to look for the hidden truth.

Spending Christmas Unemployed

The November unemployment rate made a modest (and statistically insignificant) turn for the better with the claim that America only lost 11,000 jobs in November. That claim seems wildly suspect. It seems implausible that we went from losing 190,000 jobs in October to only 11,000 jobs lost in November

Weekly first time jobless claims fell from about 500,000 a week to around 450,000 a week by the end of the month. That is quite a lot of weekly newly unemployed to net only 11,000 jobsSource: The Strata-Sphere RSS Feed

Full Text Of Obama’s Speech On Afghanistan

Good evening. To the United States Corps of Cadets, to the men and women of our armed services, and to my fellow Americans: I want to speak to you tonight about our effort in Afghanistan – the nature of our commitment there, the scope of our interests, and the strategy that my Administration will pursue to bring this war to a successful conclusion. It is an honor for me to do so here – at West Point – where so many men and women have prepared to stand up for our security, and toSource: Donklephant RSS Feed

Ryan White

GOP gubernatorial candidate Karen Testerman's Reagan-era attitude toward gays and lesbians has me nostalgic.

Turns out I'm almost the same age as Ryan White. Remember him?

In the early 1980s, AIDS was known as gay-related immune deficiency, because the disease had first been identified among primarily homosexual communities in New York City and San Francisco. At the start of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the United States, the disease was thought to be a "homosexual problem" and was Source: Blue Hampshire RSS Feed

Redistricting New York

(This diary is cross-posted on the Swing State Project and the Albany Project.)

Using Dave's Redistricting Application (on the Swing State Project) I have drawn a plan for the state of New York. Already, 27 out of 29 Representatives are Democrats. However, the state is set to lose one seat in the 2012 redistricting, and several current Democrats hold marginal districts.
This plan tries to eliminate the remaining two Republicans. NY-26, held by Christopher Lee in the westernSource: The Albany Project RSS Feed

Gene Locke comments on Hotze endorsement

Mean Gene found what he was looking for, an endorsement from the hate monger Steven Hotze. You can see the endorsement card front and back here. Look for Gene to back pedal out of this endorsement faster than a republican getting caught at a hooker convention with a bag full of condoms.
Locke, who sought the endorsement from Hotze once he realized that his black/brown coalition wasn't working out as he thought it would, had this to say:
